Dvar Torah - Parshat Terumah


This week we are privileged to read the portion of Terumah. Hashem requests that the Jews build a dwelling for His Presence amongst the Jews. For the project of building this Mishkan (Temple), it was necessary to receive donations of Gold, Silver, Copper and precious stones, and several other materials, for the completion of the project. Hashem commanded that donations be accepted from all, as this was going to be the Center for "all" Jews. The Torah goes on to describe the details of all the artifacts which were placed in the Mishkan, such as the Aron (ark), the Menorah, the Shulchan (table), Mizbeiach (altar) and so on.

I'd like to share with you some interesting facts related to details of the artifacts. The Aron in which the Tablets (Luchos) were placed, which held also the Torah, had special wooden staves covered with gold, which Torah commands us, shall never be removed from the ark. see Shemos 25/15. The staves, known as the Badim, symbolize those who support Torah. This is a message that those who support Torah will merit to be with those who learn and spread Torah in the world to come, as they are inseparable. We also know what our sages teach us that the Aron carried those which carried it. We know that the Aron was extremely heavy, it consisted of three boxes, two of which were pure gold and one was wood, probably the weight of a van... Miraculously during the journey thru the desert, it was moved from place to place, because the Aron carried those that carried it. So too, those who support Torah will be carried by the Torah.

Another observation commented by Chasidic masters. The Torah refers to the border made for the shulchan (table), in Shemos 25/27 "across the border shall be the rings". Leumas Hamigeres tihyeno Hatabaos. The word misgeres (border) comes from the word sogur - locked. Chassiddic masters teach us that when one reaches a situation where he feels locked in and bordered (limited), he shall loo to the rings, referring to the ring which Pharaoh gave Yosef, after having gone though such a difficult period, and the ring which will be reading about shortly, the ring which Achashveirosh gave Mordechai. Hashem is always there for us, even in the most difficult and unimaginable times, thing could turn for the best.

Dvar Torah - Parshat Yisro


This week we are privileged to read the portion of Yisro. The portion begins with Yisro, Moshe's Father In Law joining the Jewish people, bringing his daughter Tzipora, Moshe's wife and her two children to re-unite with their father. Yisro advised Moshe to set up a system of lower judges and leaders so that not all questions will need to be answered by Moshe himself. The Main topic of the portion is the purpose of creation, kabolas Hatorah,- receiving the Torah. The Ten Commandments are written in this week's portion.
In the beginning of the portion we learn that Moshe had two sons his oldest was named Gershon, the second Eliezer. Gershon, for I was a stranger in a foreign land. Eliezer, for the G-d of my father assisted me and rescued me from the sword of Pharaoh.
Why is it that Moshe did not name his first son after the great rescue ? The Tiferes Shlomo explains the reasoning. When Gershon was born the Jewish nation was still enslaved in Egypt, and although Moshe personally, managed to escape, he didn't view this a full rescue. For to Moshe as long as his brothers and sisters were under slavery, he was not at peace. His second son, Gershon, was however born, after Hashem had already informed Moshe that he will free the Jews from Egypt. This is why Moshe was already able to say that he was rescued. Now that his brethren were in the process of redemption, he felt comfortable naming his son for his rescue.

Perhaps this is what it means to be - k'ish echod b'leiv echod - as one man with one heart. The phrase used by our sages, to describe the unity prior to receiving the Torah. When we feel each other's pain as our own and we rejoice with one another's simcha as it is our own then we reach the level of k'ish echod b'leiv echod.
Just as during Matan Torah, everyone was healed from all illness, may it now too be a time for healing of all Klal Yisroel physically, spiritually and financially.

עברא דדשא


חסיד ופרוש
עובד ה' בכל נפשו
גאון נפלא בש״ס ופוסקים בבלי ירושלמי
סיני ועוקר הרים בראשונים ואחרונים
בקי בנגלה ונסתר
ה"ה מרן הגאון הרב שאול אלתר שליט"א.

נתבשרנו שזה עתה יצא לאור חלק שני מספרו עברא דדשא, פשוטו כמשמעו מבהיל על הרעיון.
לפעמים הקב״ה זורק לנו כוכב משיתא, אשר מבריק באור עצום כאור שבעת הימים. מופלג במדות, בבחינת מה הוא אף אתה.
אחד מתלמידי החכמים אמר פעם למרן רשכבה"ג הרב הגאון יוסף שלום אלישיב זצללה"ה, בתוך שיחה בדברי תורה, שהגר"ש אלתר שליט"א הביא מקור בעניין הסוגיא שדנו בה, כיון שהגיד וכו'. מיד הגיב מרן זצ"ל, אי אפשר לתפוס את הגר"ש אלתר שליט"א בחוסר ידיעה בסה"ק, אפילו בספר קצות החושן.

וציויתי את ברכתי



השלג והגשם היורד ברציפות בניו יורק עם הקור הגדול, קובע שיאים חדשים. ידוע שמרן הגר"ח קניבסקי שליט"א,  אמר כמה וכמה פעמים, ברכת וציויתי את ברכתי, היא ברכה גם מחוץ לארץ ישראל. והנה אנחנו רואים, הן בארץ והן מחוץ לארץ את ברכת ה' בריבוי הגשם.

בכל יום אנו מתפללים ומבקשים שים שלום, אמנם לדאבונינו עדיין לא זכינו לראות את מילוי תפילותינו, לצערינו עדיין יש מחלוקת ויש שנאה.
לית מאן דפליג שמותר לחלוק, בכל הדורות לא הסכימו תמיד תלמידי החכמים ומורי הדרך בעם ישראל על אותה הדרך. אבל אסור לשנוא!
זה נורא כואב, כשיודעים שבכל צד עומדים גדולי תורה ועובדי השם. כואב הלב כשרואים את סימני עיקבתא דמשיחא במילויים, כמה דחוצפא מסגי. המצב כיום, אינו מביא כבוד שמים. אדרבה, אופן ההתנהגות והגרורות של המחלוקת, גורם לחילול השם, ומביא מסר ברור לדור העתיד שמותר לבזות ולהכות תלמידי חכמים.
איננו מקנאים באף אחד שנגרר לעשות מעשים כאלו, ואפילו אם נדמה לו שעושה כביכול לשם שמים.

כפיות טובה ולשון הרע


בימים אחרונים ישנם דיבורים על יהודי אשר לו מעמד פוליטי נכבד וחשוב בניו יורק. יהודי זה, הרבה בטובות וחסדים לבני ברית וגם לשאינם בני ברית, ובפרט לרבים משומרי תורה ומצוות. המדובר הוא בשלדון סילבר שיח'. היה ראש המדברים בוועדת הassembly של ניו יורק (המדינה). וכייון שמר סילבר הינו "דמוקרט"ת מובן מאליו שעיתונאים רפובליקנים יחפשו רעתו ויאשימו אותו ויבזו אותו, עוד לפני תחיללת משפטו.
אבל מה שמפריע לנו, "בלוגים" שבכתבים ע"י מי שכביכול אדם חרדי, כותבים עליו כל דבר האסור על אף שגם הם עצמם נעזרו ע"י מר שלדון במישרים או בעקיפין. ואיסור כפול הוא זה, כפיות טובה ולשון הרע! ואיך ניתן לכתוב דברי בלע ושחץ, בפרט שעדיין לא התחילו לברר את דינו.

אנשי שלומנו, כולם מכירים ויודעים על אותם בלוגיסטים, אשר מתעטפים  בטליתות בבחינת "נזם זהב באף חזיר". וכל פעילותו של בלוג, מיוסד על לשון הרע והוצאת דיבה. ולדאבוננו ולמורת רוחנו, רבים מהבלוגיסטים, שמחים במפלת חביריהם. והונש על זה מפורש במשנה בסנהדרין שאין להם חלק בעולם הבא.

מנהיגי ישראל, אדמורי"ם, רבנים מכל העדות והחוגים וראשי ישיבות שליט"א, כולם עומדים בדעה ברורה שאסור לקרוא בבלוגים שיש בהם מעין לשון הרע ודברים אסורים.

לכן פונים אנו אליכם, יהודים אהובים, הזהרו מלהיכשל ח"ו, לקרוא בעיתונים כאלו, וק"ו מבלוגים אפילו אם נראה כבלוג חרדי.

The Tzadik, the Rebbe of Zlatzchov, and the Gaon and Rosh Yeshiva, Rav Chaim L Epstein, זצ"ל


In the last two weeks Klal Yisroel was visited with the tragedy of the Loss of Two Great towering People. One was a Chassidic Rebbe ,זי"ע known as the Zlatchover Rebbe who resided in Monsey the last number of years and brought ברכה to the community residents. A unique and Authentic עובד ה'. People who carried pain, emotional or physical flocked to the Rebbe for Chizuk , עצות and ברכות. There are people particularly in Monsey who benefited from the above.

The fulfillment of the Rebbe's ברכות were not unusual. Then there are those broken, lonely and Comfort needing souls from different parts of the world who would visit the Rebbe and left with comforting brachos.

Then is the Great Rosh Yeshiva, Harav Chaim Leib Epstein זצ"ל who shared his greatness in Torah that he achieved beginning with his years under the tutelage of מרן הגר"א קוטלר זצ"ל.

He was the paragon of humility in an aggressive way. He was from the chosen few who were Truly בורח מן הכבוד. Blessed with a specific עדינות הנפש, he was able to use his wisdom to Share someone else's pain and then he gave them the appropriate עצה. His focus on his personal עבודת השם was palpable.

At this time, when כלל ישראל are threatened by vicious enemies, their presence shielded us. Their tefilos and עבודת השם not to mention their עמלות בתורה comforted us from the presence of ominous dark clouds following us.

These two Prize Gedolim, zy"a moved from the world of mortals to the עולם הנשמות. Let us hope That their leaving עולם הזה is not מפני הרעה נאסף הצדיק but a calling to enter the heavenly court And beg for the safety of all of כלל ישראל.

!ותנו כבוד לתורה

נאום נתניהו בפני הקונגרס


למרות התעקשותו של נתניהו ודעתו שזה הזמן הנכון והמתאים לבוא בפני הקונגרס, בנגוד להסכמתו של הנשיא אובמה, הדעה הרווחת היא שזה מיותר ולא כדאי.
הן מפני שזהו מעשה הנעשה מתוך אינטרס אישי ואגואיסטי, כקלף נוסף להצלחתו בבחירות. ושנית, מפני שהנשיא יטור לו נקמה, וזה יהיה על חשבון העם היהודי.

אבל, גם לא מקובל התנגדותו של אובמה בראש כל חוצות. זהו שנאת ישראל גרידא. בבחינת "חסורי מחסרא והכי קתני לה", בשל שנאת הנשיא ליהודים הבאים להתחנן לנציגי הקונגרס האמריקאי, שיעזרו ליושבי ארץ ישראל מסכנת הגרעין האיראני.
זה מזכיר לנו מהיסטורית עמנו, את עובדת דוד וגלית. שגאוותו של גלית היא זו שהפכה למפלתו.
האב רחמן יעזרנו עכשיו כמו בעבר.

ה' הוא האלוקים


מי"ג עיקרי אמונתנו שהקב"ה בורא ומנהיג. לא אובמה ולא הנלוה אליו ג'ון קרי.

אי שביעות רצונו של אובמה מהזמנת נתניהו לנאום בפני הקונגרס האמריקאי, הינו מכך שאובמה חושש שנתניהו כהרגלו יציג בפניהם את הפנים האמיתיות של הטיפול בסכנת הגרעין האירני. ואת אזלת ידו של אובמה בטיפול בעניין. נתניהו איננו חושש בעניין הזה, ורואה בזה סכנה של השמדה ח"ו. אובמה חושש שכתוצאה מכך יצוף חוסר האחריות שלו בגרעין האירני.

אובמה, כבר מהימים הראשונים שכהן כנשיא. גילה סימני אנטישמיות וחוסר כבוד ליחסי ארצות הברית - ישראל. ומאז ומעולם הוא מנסה לשלוט בפוליטיקה הישראלית אף על הסיכון הגדול בזה.

הציבור בישראל, עליו להפנים ולדעת, נשיא ארצות הברית בימים אלו שונא יהודים באשר הם. כל הבעיות הנגרמות ביחסים בין המדינות הן תוצאה ישירה של שנאתו זו. והוא היה צריך להתאמץ ולפתור אותם ולא לתת להם לגדול.

אנו תפילה לשוכן במרומים שיביא קץ לכל צרותינו.

Dvar Torah - Parshat Bo


This week we are privileged to read the portion of Bo. The Torah describes the last three plagues, and then finally, the redemption/exodus from Egypt in broad daylight. Also in this week's portion the mitzvah of Rosh Chodesh (setting up a lunar based calendar), and the laws regarding the Korban Pesach (Pesach offering) are mentioned as this was the first time that there was a celebration based on a date (taking the lamb on the tenth and then the actual offering on the fourteenth day of Nisan) .

All the events that took place leading up to the redemption are full of lessons in emuna (faith) for us today. We learn that when Hashem will decide to redeem us again, all those who mishandled the Jews will pay a hefty price.

Hashem requested of Moshe"let each man request (borrow) of his fellow and each woman from her fellow silver vessels and gold vessels". Hashem granted the favor in the eyes of Egypt .... The Torah states that the Jews literally emptied out Egypt.

It is difficult to understand, why did Hashem want this to be done in such a way ? Why request a loan ? Hashem has many ways to grant us what is coming to us why in a way that would seem like they had to fool the Egyptians, so to say that it's only a loan. There's no question that this money was coming to the Jews for all the hard labor over 210 years....

Reb Bunim of Patshischa explains, being that Hashem promised Avrohom that his descendant will be tortured and then they will leave with great wealth. One might get comfortable and begin believing that money is everything and spirituality gets put on a back burner. Therefore Hashem wanted specifically that the wealth come in form of a loan, which Hashem of course granted us. This was done so that they don't get too comfortable with materialism. If Hashem blesses us with wealth, we should never forget who is the one who gave it to us, it's only Hashem .

May we merit to always be grateful for the good G-d grants us and remember without divine assistance we'd be nowhere.

ברוך דין האמת - הגאון הגדול הרב חיים לייב אפשטיין זצ"ל


נתבשרנו בבשורה מרה, על פטירתו של האי גברא רבה ויקירא, ראש ישיבת זכרון מלך, מרן הרב חיים לייב אפשטיין זצ"ל.
היה תלמיד חביב למרן רשכבה"ג הרה"ג אהרן קוטלר זצללה"ה, ראש ישיבת בית מדרש גבוה בלייקווד.

הלוויה יוצאת מבית מדרשו בברוקלין, משם ללייקווד עיר התורה, מקום אשר הנפטר למד עמל ויגע רבות בשנים עד אשר נהיה לתלמיד חכם חביב. ומקום קבורתו בלייקווד עיר התורה.

הנפטר היה ידוע כאיש אמת, סבלן ואיש שלום. התנזר מפעילות שאיננה קשורה לעיסוק התוה"ק, לא נטל לעצמו תפקידי כבוד באגודת ישראל ולא בשאר ארגונים חשובים. חתימתו לא התנוססה על קול קורא, למעט מקרים בודדים כדוגמת חתימתו על מחאה למען כבודו של מרן הרב שך זצללה"ה ראש ישיבת פונוביז.

מועצת גדולי התורה


מרן הרב אהרן שכטר שליט"א, דורש להתרחק ולהימנע מכל שמץ של בזיון התורה. הוא רחוק מלצדד לטובת איזשהו צד. יותר מכל, כואב לו בזיון התורה. אשר שועלים קטנים, מחבלי כרמים, מבעירים שריפה מסוכנת לכלל ישראל.

מרן ראש ישיבת חיים ברלין שליט"א, אוהב ומכבד את מרן הגראי"ל שליט"א ואת מרן הגר"ח שליט"א בלב ונפש. הוא מכיר גם את מרן הגר"ש שליט"א שהוא גאון בתורה וגם כאיש אשר גדולי ישראל מדור העבר סמכו ידיהם עליו. הראש ישיבה רואה את מרן הגראי"ל מנהיג לאלפים ולצידו את מרן הגר"ש שאלפים נשמעים לקולו.

ועל הכל, ראש ישיבת חיים ברלין, דורש כמו מרן הרב שך זצ"ל. בני ישראל שבחו"ל לא יתערבו ביודעין וק"ו בלא יודעין לענייני ארץ ישראל. ולכן בשבוע האחרון פרש מרן הגר"א שכטר שליט"א ממועצת גדולי התורה.

ואחרי אשר אגודת ישראל ראו והבינו את דברי מרן הגר"א שהם אמת וצדק. תיקנו את מה שנראה להגר"א כטעון תיקון, חזר הראש ישיבה למעמדו כיו"ר מועצת גדולי התורה באגודת ישראל שבארצות הברית.

Dvar Torah - Parshat Voeiro


This week we are privileged to read the portion of Voeiro. The Torah describes the difficulties the Jewish nation was going through in Egypt, and the beginning of the redemption process. Hashem sent Moshe to warn Pharaoh, if he won't let the Jews out of Egypt, he will be hit with plagues. The details of the first seven plagues and Pharaoh's re-action, and his refusal to bend are discussed in this week's portion. Much can be learned from every detail which took place during these events.

Hashem promises Moshe (Shmos6/6), and I will take you out from under the "burdens" of Egypt. The Hebrew word used, to describe the difficult burden is "Sivlos". This can also be translated as tolerance. I will take you out of being tolerant of an Egyptian lifestyle. We need to be understanding that our way of life must be different. The greatest golus (exile) is when we become so comfortable with our non jewish neighbors' lifestyle, and try to imitate their dress code, language and way of life. Although we must treat all religions with respect we need to remember our unique privilege as the chosen nation. Yes! We are different.
Occasionally, we are unfortunately reminded by the evil elements of the world that we are different. Let's maintain our difference by sticking to "our" holy way of life...
There's a story told about Reb Nochum of Chernobyl. He was a guest at an Inn, and in middle of the night the innkeeper heard terrible sobbing and crying from the Rebbe's room. The innkeeper ran up to the Rebbe's room and asked whether something happened, and why he was crying. To his amazement, the Rebbe responded, that he was crying because the center of Jewish life was destroyed (Bais Hamikdosh). When did that happen, asked the innkeeper. Almost Two thousand years ago replied the Rebbe. The ignoramus innkeeper couldn't understand, the Rebbe is crying over something that occurred so long ago ? The Rebbe explained to him that we are hopeful and we pray that Hashem soon rebuild the Temple, and we will all go to Eretz Yisroel. The innkeeper became rather disappointed. He said that he needed to discuss this with his wife. Several minutes later he returned and said we don't want to go to Eretz Yisroel. We have so much invested here, goats, chickens and an inn, we can't leave all of this, and just go to Jerusalem. The Rebbe asked him if his inn was ever attacked or robbed, yes he replied. The rebbe told him that when we will be brought back to Eretz Yisroel, this will not happen. Why, asked the innkeeper, doesn't Moshiach just take the goyim (other nations) to Eretz Yisroel and leave us here?
This too, is part of becoming "too comfortable" amongst the nations. That is what Hashem told Moshe regarding the Jewish nation: I will take you out of tolerating Egypt.

The Maharal says that the redemption of Egypt is a blueprint for the ultimate redemption. May we merit to see the ultimate redemption speedily.

Dvar Torah - Parshat Shmos


This week we are privileged to read the portion of Shmos. The second book of the Torah, begins with the difficulties and slavery which the Jews were subject to in Egypt. After Yosef and his brothers passed away the Egyptians offered the Jews work for pay, and then forced it on them without pay. Later, it turned out to be hard labor and slavery. Pharaoh was told by his astrological forecasters that the savior of the Jews was to be born, and pharaoh made a decree that all males be thrown into the river. Moshe was born (premature), and his mother his him for three months. Later she put him into the river in a box, as his sister (Miriam) stood by to see what will transpire. Basya, the daughter of pharaoh came to the river and saw the lad and decided to adopt him. Since Moshe would not accept her milk, Basya requested of Miriam that she get a jewish woman to feed the child. Moshe was brought to his mother Yocheved daily and she fed him physically and spiritually so that he can survive in pharaoh's palace. Later Moshe's identity was revealed, as he tried assisting his brethren, and pharaoh wanted to Kill him. Moshe miraculously escaped and wound up in Midyan. In Midyan Moshe met Tzipora, the daughter of Yisro, and marries her. Years have passed and the Jews were suffering terribly and G-d reveals himself to Moshe in a bush and tells him to go and request of pharaoh to free the jewish people. At first Moshe refused, but later he accepted and began the process which later led to the redemption of the Jewish nation from Egypt.

There's a fascinating message to be learned from this portion. Many times people think they can outsmart Hashem, and they do things despite they know they shouldn't, thinking it's going to help them. It never works!

In Shmos 1/10 Pharaoh tells his advisors let's outsmart "him", maybe he will increase and war occur, they will join our enemies and leave the land. Pharaoh was adamant that the Jews remain in Egypt. He therefore took several steps to guarantee his foolishness. First he chose to dictate their lives and force them into hard labor. We know that the Jewish people were meant to be slaves for 400 years, and only because of the hard labor Hashem subtracted 190 years and they were freed after 210 years. Turns out that Pharaoh's plan to outsmart the Jews, and keep them, actually freed them earlier. He then gave a decree that all infant males be throw into the river, to rid himself of the Jewish savior who was to be born. This in turn caused Pharaoh himself to be the one who raised the Jewish savior - Moshe, in his own palace.
The message for us is that when we see that G-d leads us in certain ways, we can make limited effort in a permissible way to improve our situation but we must always remember it is Hashem and only Hashem who decides our fate.

Dvar Torah - Parashat Vayechi


This week we are privileged to read the portion Vayechi, the final portion of the first book - Bireishis (Genesis). The portion begins with the count of Yaakov's life, specifically, the last 17 years, which he spent in Egypt, after reuniting with his beloved son, Yosef.
Yaakov requested of Yosef that he bury him in Israel, next to his ancestors (in Chevron). Later Yaakov blessed Yosef's children and placed Ephraim, the younger one, before Menashe, who was older. He also announced that they are just as Reuven and Shimon, tribes of their own. Thereafter, Yaakov gathered all his children and gave them his final blessings, to each individually. Yaakov passes on and Yosef and the brothers bury him in Chevron. The brothers fare that Yosef will take revenge, Yosef assures them once again that he bares no grudge and it's all from Hashem.

Yaakov blesses the children with the famous blessing which we recite every night before we go to rest, hamalach hagoel. Yaakov blesses them that be called by his name, and the of his forefathers Avrohom and Yitzchok, and they shall multiply like fish. The word "veyidgu" larov - which means they should multiply to many. The term is meant, that they be shielded from a bad eye (Ayin hora), like fish that are out of sight, and therefore a bad eye cannot reach them.

The Ksav Sofer explains the sequence of the blessing as follows. It is understood that the daughter of a king will marry someone from a prominent family and/or certainly someone who has stature himself. A beggar's son doesn't get jealous of that young man, because he knows he's not in that league. So too it is in all areas of life jealousy usually occurs between two people on the same level, however, if one is on a higher level it is less common for jealousy and envy.

So too, explains the Ksav Sofer, the blessing to us is that we should always be worthy of being labeled the children of Avrohom, Yitzchok and Yaakov, which puts is in a different league. That ultimately will spare us from a bad eye.

Let us always remember to act as children of our holy Patriarchs thereby commanding respect and honor instead of jealousy and envy.
